The New England Chapter of GBW has a long history of member exhibitions.  Some highlights will be outlined in reverse chronological order below (this is a work in progress!).  Catalogues for many exhibitions remain available.

Inspired Design:  The Mentoring Stamp

August 10 through December 20, 2008

Curated by Barbara B. Blumenthal, Mortimer Rare Book Room at Smith College, and our chapter exhibitions chair, Barbara Adams Hebard, this set book exhibition featured bindings by members of the New England Chapter of the Guild of Book Workers.  Each binder interpreted the same text: Designing the Mentoring Stamp by Lance Hidy, designed by Michael Russem and published by his Kat Ran Press in 2007.

A fully-illustrated catalogue of the exhibition, with descriptions of the bindings, biographies of the binders, and artist statements, is available for sale from the Mortimer Rare Book Room. Order form.

November 11 through December 31, 2004

The Providence Athenaeum

Curated by our chapter exhibitions chair, Lori Foley, this open-themed exhibition featured fine bindings, fine press work, artists’ books and calligraphy by members of the New England Chapter of the Guild of Book Workers.

Tenth Anniversary Exhibition

March 9 through May 2, 1992 at the Museum of Our National Heritage.  Lexington, MA.
May 15 through June 15, 1992 at the Round Top Center for the Arts.  Damariscotta, ME.

Organized by exhibition chair Kathleen Markees, and curated in Maine by Julie Stackpole, this exhibition celebrated a milestone in the first regional chapter of GBW.  Members exhibited a wide range of the arts of the book in an open-themed, multiple venue show.

There is a black and white illustrated catalogue still available, bound by students in the bookbinding program at North Bennet Street School with paste paper covers.  Catalogue for sale by the New England Chapter.  Contact the chapter chair for details.
