Conservation Open House at the Boston Athenaeum

Saturday, December 7, will be an exciting day. There is an Open House in the Conservation Lab (10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. with a break from noon – 2:00 p.m.) where you can watch Athenӕum conservators demonstrate techniques they use to stabilize, preserve, and restore the Athenæum’s treasures, including paper-washing, gilding leather with gold leaf and antique brass tools, and mending damaged documents.

In conjunction with this event, we are happy to host Beyond the Athenӕum, a panel discussion at noon with several successful former fellows and interns on their current conservation practices, the influence of the fellowship or internship on their professional growth, and of course, their Athenæum reminiscences. Both events are open to the public. Reservations are not required.
